For over 25 years, Claudio Avila Tobias has advised senior leaders on how to advance their strategic vision and develop organizational capability. Claudio's most recent work includes assignments at Danfoss, Grupo BIMBO, Merck, and Zurich Financial Services.

Claudio has been collaborating with a $15 billion company in the food industry of the Americas at operations in several countries. Some project results: by innovating with a new product, a subsidiary in the US entered the snack segment of the market in half their normal time; despite slow market conditions, a subsidiary in South America launched an entirely new product line and achieved its annual sales goal; going after one client together gave two sister companies in North America the opportunity to work together and to identify the necessary capabilities required to play in the highly competitive market; a general manager in Uruguay turned the business around in six months after years of losing money; a business in the US grew their retail client base by 3% in only a few months by partnering with another sister company.

Similar assignments include:

  • Product rationalization and the development of next $1 billion brands for a $48 billion global pharmaceutical company. Claudio supported corporate and regional teams in Europe and Latin America. Within a couple of years, teams from different countries generated $410 million of additional sales to the top line.
  • Supporting the regional CEO of Zurich Latin America to grow sales from $1 billion to $1.2 billion over a period of two years. Claudio helped a number of executives from different business lines and countries to conduct sales growth projects aimed at developing innovation and collaboration capabilities, and generating profits. For instance, a new product for covering managers’ liability was introduced by a team with people from Latin America, Asia, and Europe, and within a year this product became the largest of its kind among Zurich´s competitors in the region.

Prior to joining Schaffer Consulting, Claudio was part of the operations management practice at Arthur D. Little in Mexico. He consulted with organizations like Wal-Mart, Group Danone, Pantaleón (largest Central American sugar cane exporter), CEMEX, and Pemex (the Mexican state oil company). In his first years as a professional he worked for Peñoles Metals and Chemicals, world leader in silver production, in the design and startup of new plant expansions and operations.

Claudio received his BS in Chemical and Systems Engineering from the Instituto Technológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (México). He earned an MBA with honors from the Instituto Technológico Autonomo de México.
